Are you claiming your funding?

"Our local authority operate a scheme entitled ‘Provider Support Programme’ for staff working in the care environment. As EDGE Services training events are professionally endorsed/accredited we were able to obtain full funding to undertake three four day training events with EDGE. Therefore we were able to have quality training delivered to us completely free of charge."

A recent survey from The Department of Health suggested that as much as 50% of the healthcare profession are not accessing the government funding that they are entitled to.

Accessing such funding is not always easy and can be confusing this may be a stumbling block for many people. However, once you know your way around the process there is money to be found.

The main source of this funding is the Training Strategy Implementation Funding which is allocated via local providers from ‘Skills for Care’. The funding, which is set this year at £65 per unit covers induction training and mandatory courses which includes moving and handling training.

There has to be evidence of ‘accreditation’ or ‘validation’ of a course, but now that EDGE Services have academic accreditation for a number of their courses as well as our long standing Endorsement by The College of Occupational Therapists for all our people and children handling training events this should not pose a problem for those of you interested to apply.

Other sources of funding include the Leadership and Management Grants from Business Link. This could be as much as £1,000 worth of funding. The Learning and Skills Council continue to support NVQs through the ‘Train to Gain’ funding stream with up to £350 available.

Although the time to undertake the research can be hard to come by, the level of funding available will make it worthwhile in the long run. The trick is patience with the system and planning your training requirements well in advance to give you the time to have the funding in place.
